Sunday the kids and went for a walk through Maple Hill Cemetery in Huntsville. They were having their annual "Cemetery Stroll". Even though I've lived in Huntsville for 13 years I knew very little about this cemetery. It is located near the downtown area and covers 100 acres. It is huge!! Several Alabama Governor's are buried there as well as other prominent figures. The cemetary was established 1818. For this special event 60 costume figures represented the lives of historic and colorful figures buried in the historic section. We parked on the far side of the cemetary, not really knowing where to go, and therefore enjoyed quite a walk. The cemetery is well shaded with gorgeous trees. We got there toward the end and did not get to see all the historic figures but it was fun and interesting, nonetheless.
