Snow Flower and the Secret Fan

I just finished reading Snow Flower and the Secret Fan by Lisa See. This book met a very important criteria for a good book. I became totally immersed. I was there with the characters and they became my friends.

The book is told from the perspective of an 80 year old woman looking back on her life. She grew up in rural China during the 1800's. The book is the story of two women's friendship that began when they were children and continued throughout their lives. The book gives very good descriptions of Chinese life including the practice of foot-binding, marrying-in, and the position of women in society. It is a short book but it is filled with intense emotion. I highly recommend it.
